Retrofit steam boiler at Perlen Papier

Sustainable innovation and increased efficiency for the future of paper production. A boiler that was decommissioned around 10 years ago has been reactivated and is being used for steam production again.

Perlen Papier AG, a leading family business and Switzerland's number one manufacturer of high-quality magazine and press papers, has extensively refurbished its steam boiler, which has been out of operation for around ten years, and put it back into operation

Rey Technology carried out the retrofit on the steam boiler and acted as general contractor (GC), coordinating the subcontractors. The refurbishment comprised several important steps. Firstly, all the necessary documents were obtained to ensure functionality, including a risk analysis and SIL classification. The flue gas routing was fundamentally redesigned by dismantling the existing catalytic converter and adapting the turning chambers to route the flue gases through the 3-pass boiler in the classic way.

In addition, the old smooth-tube Eco was replaced with a new Eco from Ecotherm, which led to a reduction in flue gas losses. The flue pipes in the third flue were replaced, including the necessary locksmith and welding work as well as X-ray inspections and pressure tests. All boiler fittings and seals were checked or replaced. The old burner was replaced by a modern Saacke burner with electronic control. A new gas line and supply line were also installed.

The excellent collaboration with the Perlen Papier project team contributed significantly to the success of the project. Thanks to careful planning and implementation, the steam boiler was put back into operation on schedule. This represents significant progress for steam production at Perlen Papier and underlines the company's innovative strength and ecological responsibility.
