Power-to-gas: Successful implementation of a supply container
Planning, delivery and equipping of a customized supply container to support green hydrogen production
Hydrogen is produced on the site of the Buchs waste incineration plant. The Swiss-Japanese plant manufacturer Hitachi Zosen Inova is building the first electrolyser to produce green hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from the waste incineration plant. The oxygen is released into the environment, the hydrogen is compressed and stored in special tanks. For this purpose, HZI uses an alkaline electrolyzer that produces 550 Nm³/h of green hydrogen at 350 bar. The power-to-gas plant also includes several filling stations.
The hydrogen plant helps to stabilize the power grid by converting electricity into hydrogen during periods of overproduction and thus storing the energy. This means that producers of renewable electricity (solar and wind power) do not have to be shut down when there is a surplus.
Rey Technology was commissioned to supply the supply container for the power-to-gas plant. Our project included the planning, delivery and equipping of the special container, which weighs around 10 tons. The container was equipped with a double floor, medium-voltage disconnector, 700 kVA transformer, a low-voltage main distribution board, air conditioning and lighting.
The planning and layout of the container was particularly challenging. Many safety regulations and specifications had to be taken into account, e.g. a fire-resistant wall, an emergency stop concept and the cable entries on site. The very short implementation phase of 6 months had to be used efficiently in terms of the delivery times for the container, transformer and medium-voltage disconnector.
